Now reduced to just less than 150,000€ This really is remarkable value and only five minutes to Villena a fabulous town in inland Spain yet only 40 minutes to Alicante Airport and 5 minutes more to the beaches. There is no doubt that bringing the property up to scratch will cost 20-25,000€ unless you are capable of doing the work, or part of the work yourselves. In prime condition this is a 250,000€ Villa.

Although this is one house it has been separated into a 3 Bed 1 Bath Upper Floor and 1 Bed big Apartment on the ground level so it is perfect for two families or to live in one part and rent out the other. Located in El marron, Villena a highly desirable location, walking distance to La Braseria an excellent restaurant and close to a Tennis Club it is only a five-minute drive into the centre of Villena which is full of bars, cafes and restaurants as well as a choice of a number of supermarkets.

Properties in El Marron are generally priced between 250,000€ and 450,000€ and this has the potential to be up there with them but is in need of modernisation as very little has been done to it since it was built. It has Mains Water and Electricity along with a well and drinking water.

The exterior is untidy but massive with a superb, large swimming pool complete with a pump and filter. There are the foundations and layout for a full-size tennis court which just needs finishing off. There is a BBQ area and a large pergola for relaxing in the shade and admiring the views. The owners have unfortunately suffered from recent poor health and want to spend the rest of their days in an apartment in the town as they cannot look after a property of this size and its grounds.

There are three separate areas with kennels, a garage that fits a proper car and just a small hatchback, and a good-sized workshop for the handyman or handywoman I suppose.

The ground floor is a self-contained large 1 Bedroom Apartment and takes up the whole of the footprint of the house, a perfect place for elderly relatives or guests or to rent out or even to live in and rent out the 3 Bedroom 1 Bathroom Upper Floor, plenty of options. We are asked so many times for a property for two families and this is definitely in that category.

The upper floor as mentioned has three bedrooms, a lounge/diner, a bathroom and a kitchen, and lots of storage space as well as a wraparound balcony that has fabulous views down to the pool and across to the mountains in the distance.

We have a proud reputation for explaining things as they are and this property needs complete modernisation but it is perfectly liveable and the work can be done bit by bit. If ever property was "priced to sell" then this is the one because at only 150,000€ this is a massive house that can never outprice the area no matter what is spent on it so it can be seen as a great investment as well as a fabulous place to live.

Villena is wonderful, it has a great cultural history. The 14th-century castle stands proudly overlooking the town which is full of bars/cafes and restaurants some of which are excellent the highlights being El Culto Restaurant which encourages you to order 24 hours ahead for its many special dishes especially the slow-cooked meats whilst Tita´s Gastronimo is a superb Tapas Bar and Restaurant that people travel quite a distance to come to as the Tapas are imaginative and beautiful yet there is still a Menu Del Dia for less than 15€.

The Moors and Christians Fiesta held in early September draws crowds from all over and is an absolute must, the costumes cost up to several thousand Euros and the princesses look beautiful and breathtaking. Alternatively, and I mean alternatively, Villena hosts one of Spains biggest Heavy Metal Festivals at the end of August.

Juan Carlos Ferrero, former world no. 1 tennis player has developed the JC Ferrero Equelite Tennis Academy, which has produced such players as Guillermo García-López. Tennis is big in Villena because of the success it has had producing some of Spain´s greatest players.

Villena is located close to Autovía A-31. It has two railway stations; Villena AV serving AVE high-speed rail services on the Madrid–Levante high-speed rail network, and Villena, which sees Renfe local and regional trains. The AVE is one of Spain´s proudest achievements, a high-speed rail link that can take you from Alicante to Madrid in under 2 hours 30 minutes and from Villena to Madrid in just 2 hours 9 minutes with prices starting from 21€. From Atocha Railway Station in Madrid there is a Metro link to Madrid Airport, this means that if you want to fly Trans Atlantic then there is no need to go via another country´s Hub.
