Description

3 Bed 2 Bath Townhouse with great character in the cultural heart of Castalla only 59,995€

Wow, this is really something special. Right in the cultural heart of the castle town of Castalla, 30 minutes from Alicante Airport and the beach, nestled in the valley of mountain ranges. Castalla is vibrant, welcoming, and wealthy and, like its nearby neighbour Sax, is safe to walk anywhere you want at any time of the day or night.

The property is located on a pedestrianised street with parking only 75 metres away next to the Town Hall and the church, and the local supermarkets deliver to your door.

This is actually a three-storey property, the ground floor and the first floor have been completely reformed but have kept the character of the stone build. The Upper floor can be made into more accommodation and/or to add more outside space and is closed off by a dividing door so that you don´t have to make a decision straight away but the potential is there.

In the style of the older, better-built properties this one is full of natural light and has high ceilings which you notice as soon as you walk in the door to a great space with parquet flooring used as a living room with a feature fireplace ready for a pellet fire to be fitted. Of course, it doesn´t have to be a pellet fire but they are so economical and will heat the whole property more or less. Walking through to the dining area, you see ahead the galley kitchen which is fully fitted and then out the small rear patio where the owner currently has a washing machine etc.

This is how houses used to be, spacious and airy, big enough for families and not a sound to be heard through the thick stone walls.

The lovely staircase leads up top a spacious landing, do you remember the days of hallways and landings? I love them. There are three bedrooms, two are large, the master bedroom has a small balcony and one is best described as a single, all as downstairs, open to natural light and filled with colour.

There are two bathrooms, one on the ground floor with a bathtub and a much more modern shower room upstairs.

Additionally, there are two small storage rooms hidden away.

The access to the upper floor is from a door opening to a staircase, there are two large rooms which have been used for workshop purposes and then a few more stairs take you to another storage room. From here you can access a small and lovely terrace.

If the decision was mine, I´m sure I would make the whole space into a big roof terrace and that would also be the cheapest option but, we estimate that for around 20,000€ a whole new floor with 2 Bedrooms and a bathroom can be constructed and still keep a small terrace.

The reformed parts of the house have been rewired and re-plumbed.

There are more than 10,000 castles in Spain and Castalla castle is definitely up there with the superior ones. Built in the 13th century and reformed with great care more recently it stands out like a beacon over the town and if you live there, then as soon as you see the castle you know you are home.

Castalla is nestled in a valley surrounded by extraordinarily stunning mountain ranges, it has a population of just over 10,000 and an international community of around 5% so it remains very Spanish but, in the many bars and restaurants, especially on market day you are bound to hear a familiar language.

It´s hard to imagine a better location as Castalla is a mere 30 minutes drive to Alicante Airport and the same to the beaches and the beautiful city of Alicante. Economically wonderful as the drive to Alicante is practically all downhill and you can stick the car in neutral for at least 20 minutes!! Ok, I´m not advising you do that as it´s probably against the law but you know what I mean.

Outside of the town are the signs of how the economy has transformed in the last few years as there is now work for everyone. This makes Castalla and its near neighbour Sax, very low crime areas and very safe.

Lots of visitors and people who visit Castalla take great delight in tasting a good Gaspacho, the typical dish that has made the capital of La Foia famous in the whole region of Alicante. This is not to be confused with the Andalusian cold soup.

Various local bars and restaurants specialize in this delicious dish made of a flatbread cooked without yeast crumbled in small pieces, copious quantities of meat, mushrooms, snails as well as lightly fried tomato and onion. And also "pebrella" derived from the thyme family, an aromatic herb that gives Gaspatxos its characteristic taste.

Not to be forgotten are the excellent homemade sausages and meats, as the wide range of typical ’tapas’: meat, fish and vegetable snacks available in any bar or restaurant.

A traditional ice-cream industry is vibrant in Castalla and many homemade ice creams can be sampled. Made with the same recipe over the years, mantecao is one of the most popular flavours.

Castalla produces excellent olive oil and delicious wine sold under the trademark "Castillo de Castalla". Both can be purchased in the local agricultural Cooperative.
